Two Ventura City Workers see ghost at City Hall
Richard Senate
Not long ago two city workers encountered the ghostly woman rumored to haunt the third floor of the west wing of City Hall. The large space was once the women's jail for the county of Ventura but now it used only for storage. The two Community Service employees were not expecting a phantom visit and were surprised when a figure passed from the east side of the building to the west and vanished. Several years ago another in the chamber late one night saw the same image moving in the same pattern. It was describled as a woman with dark hair dressed in white. Stories of the ghost can be traced back to the 1940s when rumor says a woman housed in one of the cells managed to hang herself. That cell was always called the "haunted cell" by the matrons who worked in the jail. Who is the ghost and why does she walk? No one knows?
On Saturday, March 29th, a special ghost tour of City Hall will look into the sighting and attempt to discover the idenity of the mysterious lady of the third floor. If you would like to be part of this tour tickets can be purcased by calling Community Services of the City of Ventura, 805-658-4726.
The tour will start promptly at 8:00.
