BILLINGS - You may or may not believe in ghosts, but this week is the perfect time to explore the world of the poltergeist. This is the tenth year that Montana Fun Adventure Tours has been showing people the spooky side of Billings.
A recent Associated Press poll shows that one-third of the population believes in ghosts. Karen Stevens, author of the book Haunted Montana, is on of those believers. Karen Stevens has been leading ghost tours for years. She says one haunted place is the basement of the Poly Food Mart. She says one employee, "Saw a man floating just below the ceiling beams, but she could only see him from the waist up. Below that he faded into nothing."
Nothing too out of the ordinary happened while the tour went through the basement, but Karen says she's had her fair share of encounters down here. Room 226 of the Dude Rancher Lodge is also said to have a spirit. Maids say they've felt a presence from another world.
Owner of Montana Fund Adventure Tours Renee Christiansen says maids have had experiences with, "Hair going up on the back of their neck or the TV comes on." They say the ghost's name is Annabel, but don't worry she's quite harmless. Guests in room 226 say she just wants to chat. But if you're still a skeptic, you're not alone. Renee says, "I'm not sure if I do believe in ghosts. I know I've had some experiences with it, and I just kind of have a lot of fun with it."
Exploring the supernatural side of Billings can still be a fun way to learn a little history. Renee says, "It's really a wonderful way of learning the history of the area with a little bit of a twist of a ghost here and there." There are still tours available through Halloween night.
