The pair were making a snack in the kitchen when Sam spotted a plate of marmite on toast slide across the worktop by itself.
Leaping back, she shrieked: "Oh my God, there's a ghost in the Big Brother house! Oh my God, I'm dead scared, Chanelle!"
Chanelle seemed equally terrified, squealing: "It keeps moving!" while Sam screamed at the top of her voice: "Why is it moving?"
Carole was on hand to offer a sensible explanation, assuring them that the plate had moved because it was resting on a wet patch on the worktop.
"God, that scared the hell out of me!" panted Sam, while Chanelle demanded: "Did you see it moving, though? It were weird!"
A perplexed Carole responded: "Well, it will [move] because it's floating on a cushion of water."
After several minutes, the younger girls had still not calmed down, repeating over and over how terrified they had been.
"Did you think it was going to nick your marmite on toast?" Carole wanted to know, as Tracey looked on in bewilderment from the living room sofas.
"Oh my God, I proper believed in ghosts for a second there, defo!" exclaimed Sam.
When the girls left the room, the older housemates were unable to resist having a giggle at their expense. "Aaarrghh, Tracey, a ghost!" laughed Carole, while the cleaner agreed: "There really is."
