Unknown object falls through the roof of a Woburn business
WOBURN, Mass. -- Is it a mysterious meteorite?
That's the big question, after some sort of object flew through the roof
at a local business
in Woburn.
Oddly enough, that store sells stones.
J. Kelly Beatty, of Sky and Telescope in Cambridge, examined the rock.
He is only one-third positive that it is a meteorite.
The only recorded meteorite to fall in Massachusetts was in Northhampton
in the 1960s. In the past 30 years, two meteorites fell through the roof
of homes in Connecticut.
If it is a meteorite, it could be worth thousands of dollars and more
since it fell through a roof.
Employees at Gerrity Stone, though, have said they do not intend to sell
the rock if it is a meteorite.
A meteorite is always named after the place it fell. If this were a
confirmed meteorite, it would be name the "Woburn Meteorite."
