Reader shares ghost story from his childhood
By John Ross
FOR THE TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Dear Dog Talk: I saw the article about dogs' reactions to the
paranormal, so I wanted to share a story.
I grew up in a house that was haunted (we have no other explanation).
There always were noises at night, like a man walking up the stairs and
through the hallway. It was never malicious in any way, but, rather,
like someone else who also lived in the house. He seemed aware that we
were there and who we were.
My bedroom was an old porch on the back of the house on the first floor.
The other bedrooms were on the second floor. One night, I had my dog in
the room with me, and we heard a man laughing as though he just saw
something funny. The sound was coming from the kitchen, which was next
to my room. My dog was going berserk, trying to hide as far under the
bed as he could. He was crying and yipping.
When my mother, who was upstairs, heard it, she switched on the light
and called my name. The laughter immediately stopped. The dog would, on
occasion, start staring at the (empty) hallway and elicit a low growl,
but we could not see anyone.
Dear If-He-Could-Only-Tell: Wow! Thanks for the spooky story.
