The Best Female Oscar is cursed!

London, Nov 5 (ANI): The next actress to win an Academy Award for her
role as a leading lady in a film better hang a string of garlic cloves
around her neck, lest she becomes the victim of the 'Oscar Curse'. With
Reese Witherspoon's seven-year marriage to actor Ryan Phillipe crumbling
after she picked up the Academy Award for her role as June Carter Cash
in 'Walk The Line', the Best Female Oscar has been plagued with rumours
that it is cursed. The reason behind the rumours, as it turns out, is
that Witherspoon is the sixth leading lady whose marriage has ended in
divorce after the Oscar win, reports the Daily Mail.

Other famous actresses who seemed to have the perfect marriage, before
they won the honour include two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank, who
split from hubby Chad Lowe in January this year. Halle Berry, who won in
2002, called husband Eric Benet "The joy of my life", before sending him
packing after discovering that he had had numerous affairs.

The 'curse' also affected 2001 winner Julia Roberts, who split from
fianc? Benjamin Bratt to marry cameraman Daniel Moder. 1999 winner
Gwyneth Paltrow, was another 'victim'. Her relationship with ex beau Ben
Affleck ended after she picked up her golden statue. Helen Hunt went
through a similar experience with actor Hank Azaria, whom she called "my
beloved" in 1998 - their relationship ended in 2000.

In recent years, the only leading ladies to escape the 'curse' have been
2004 winner Charlize Theron, and 1997 winner Frances McDormand.
