TV appearance for the ghost-hunting vicar
A SOUTH Derbyshire paranormal group has appeared on the national television news — because it is the first in the country to include a ghost-hunting vicar. Part-time Reverend Martin Draycott, 39, was ordained in Burton last year, but is working as a youth worker until he is allocated his own parish. As previously reported in The Mail, he joined Swadlincote Paranormal Investigations two months ago and has taken on the role of chaplain for the group. ITN news picked up the story and filming took place at the Ramada Newton Park Hotel, in Newton Road, Newton Solney, because it is one of the most haunted places that the group has visited. Simon Deacon, event co-ordinator for the group, said: "We are the first group to have a member of the clergy in the UK and we even have permission from the bishop. "The filming was really fun and we have had a lot of interest, even a television company from America. We spent about five hours filming from all different locations in the hotel, and it looked really good when we watched the news. "We really appreciated how much time ITV spent filming for what was only to be a couple of minutes of broadcasting." Swadlincote Paranormal Investigations is made up of 11 people, three of whom are mediums and three sceptics. They hold private and public investigations into unexplained disturbances, and check for other-worldly activity with the help of infra-red video cameras, motion detectors and other devices.
