Ghosts and Why We Love 'Em Written By: Todd Banks - The DeadWatch Society
So why do ghosts fascinate us so? Is it that they scare us or is it that we somehow want to hold on to the thought or obsession that maybe things don't end when our breathing does? These are questions that roll around in my head like two fat kids fighting over a Twinkie. I can remember when my obsession with the Dark side took hold. I was around six or seven and my dad took me to see my first drive-in movie. I didn't go see any kid appropriate movie like I should have. Nope, we headed to that great screen in the sky, parked the car and waited. The anticipation built in me, left me feeling euphoric in a way. Then it happened, Leatherface and his trusty chainsaw. That's all it took, a few senseless murders and some gratuitous nudes and I was hooked. Hooked on anything and everything that had to do with the Dark side of life. So here I sit at this keyboard, tapping away like a fevered chicken, telling you my side of the story. So what's yours? Did you wake one night to find the family cat at the foot of your bed, only to realize Fluffy bought the farm five years ago? Maybe it was your first time with an Ouija board. That feeling you got running up your spine when that little plastic spade looking thing moved to tell you 'Yes' after you asked if you and Scott Baio would ever get married. The point I'm making here is that we all started somewhere in life, at a point where our perception of what is real got twisted somehow, bent a little. Our impressionable little minds flipped a switch that turned on the freak side of our brain. I do believe that part is between the cerebral cortex and Maine. Do we as humans have a need to believe in something more? Can our minds comprehend total nothingness? Is what we seek real or just a way for our minds to deal with the mundane nine to fivers we all have? Can there really be something beyond all this? I would like to think so. I would like to think that for once in my life I have something more to look forward to. We can all run around with our gear and try to prove all of this to everyone else, when in all actuality, the only ones that we are trying to convince is ourselves.
