Spooky stories and phantom fables about Kenilworth have featured in the Weekly News over the years.
From paranormal manifestations in the grounds of St Nicholas's Church to the ghostly activity at Priory Theatre, the spine-tingling collection of tales has had people on the edge of their seats as they learn more about town's haunted heritage. But there's a new ghost in town spooking Stella Grant who moved into a flat in St John's Road last September. That flat was inhabited by a man who fell out of the window and died several years ago.
The 49-year-old cleaner said: "A man living in the flats asked if I was ok up there and told me about him but things did not start to happen until I started painting the bedroom and the bathroom recently."She would come home and find things in a different place and she started noticing a faint smell of body odour before eventually coming face to face with the ghostly figure."When I was painting the bedroom I felt someone standing behind me," she said. "There was a man standing there and he said 'What are you doing in my flat?' I told him it was my flat and then he said he didn't like the colour I was painting the bedroom and the bathroom.
Then he just faded away. "I occasionally see him in the afternoon standing in the doorway although he doesn't say anything. And I can feel him standing behind me sometimes. The air just goes really cold."But she said it doesn't scare her as she's seen it all before."Unless he does anything really nasty I will stay here," she said. "The first ghost I ever saw was when I was young. My sister and I were sleeping in the same room. A friend of hers who lived two doors away was killed in a car crash and we saw this girl sitting in a chair in our room."I have also seen my granddad. I was sitting in the front room at my parents' house and all of a sudden I turned and there he was, sitting in a chair."The ghost that haunts the flat in St John's Road is in his 50s, about 5ft 5ins tall and of stocky build. He is balding and is a bit scruffy and wears a shirt and trousers.
