PARANORMAL investigators are examining their recordings for evidence of ghostly goings-on, after an overnight vigil at one of Herne Bay's oldest pubs.
A team from Ghostfinders Canterbury set up eight cameras and four recording devices at the Divers Arms in Central Parade, capturing hours of audio and video footage. They edited it down to a video report of their visit to the pub featuring a host of unexplained phenomena.
Lead investigator Dale Howard said: "The general aura of the place seemed unsettled when we got in. It is a very intriguing place to be.
"Some of the team heard some bumping or shuffling noises when we were there, but it's not until we play back all the footage that we can really see what went on."
Their high-tech equipment picked up what investigators believe to be ghostly voices, one of which seems to say "hello", and another "thank you".
It also captured a series of moving lights, which Mr Howard said were orbs, or the first sign of a ghost.
Mr Howard – who is registered disabled after losing an arm and a leg in a motorbike accident – started investigating paranormal activities after watching television series Most Haunted.
Since then the group – all volunteers – have invested in the latest equipment and visited a host of locations around the county.
They are planning a charity investigation at Pluckley, said to be the most haunted village in Kent, tomorrow to raise funds for the Pilgrims Hospices.
Mr Howard, 32, said: "I was a bit apprehensive when we first started, but the more we do it, the more it becomes a feeling of excitement instead.
"I believe that the spirits are not going to harm anyone and are not physically there, just in the background, and keeping that in mind can really help."
Pub landlady Georgina Paxton is still hoping for a rational explanation.
She said: "I'm not a great believer, but I can't argue with what their video shows.
"I would have put money on the fact there was nothing here, and if there is then it's nothing bad. I lived here for six months alone, without the dogs, and I didn't notice anything and they have never picked anything up.
"But most of the activity was centred around the cellar, where there is what looks like a collapsed tunnel.
"There is still a part of me that thinks there must be some kind of explanation, but I also know what I saw on the video."
The team is now preparing a report on the Four Fathoms in Herne Bay and hopes to visit other potentially paranormal pubs too.
