THOSE who pass Boston’s famous church may be left stumped by the sight of an unexplained ghostly ‘figure’. 

Boston teenager Natalie Hall, of Station Street, was chatting with two friends near the Stump recently when they noticed a strange figure-shaped light hovering at the top of the church tower.

“I glanced up and saw this light that looked like the figure of a woman – and it was moving,” said Natalie, 17.

“I was confused by what it was and why it was there, but other people walking by were stopping to look too.”

Natalie said one man obscured a large light at the foot of the church with his body in an attempt to rule this out as being the cause.

“This made the light go and the figure seemed to disappear, but you could still see a shadow of what it was on the wall behind,” said Natalie.

“I have heard about the Stump’s Grey Lady ghost and wondered whether this could have been her.”

She added: “I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life.”

Local legend states the Grey Lady was a young woman widowed when her husband died shortly after the birth of her first child.

Stricken with grief, she threw herself off the Stump tower with her baby - but it is said that her actions damned her to exist in limbo.
