British comedian Russell Brand is about to relive his childhood, and in the process, introduce Americans to a whole new comedy franchise; he’s planning to star in a big-screen revival of British TV sitcom Rentaghost.
The original kids’ series ran between 1976 and 1984, and centered around the ghost of a failed businessman who tries to run an agency that hires out ghosts to the living. According to Deadline, Brand will play the businessman, Fred Mumford, in the remake, which is currently looking for writers. Given the mix of camp humor in the original and the potential for special effects in this remake, this might end up being Brand’s ideal franchise, if American audiences buy into the concept. At the very least, it couldn’t be worse than The Haunted Mansion.
