Meriden, Conn. (WTNH) - Three teens were seriously hurt after they were caught trespassing in Hubbard Park in Meriden, police said.
The teens were found around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday near what used to be the Undercliff Institution, which decades ago was a hospital for dying children. Some people believe the area is haunted.
A Meriden police officer told News 8 the three boys may possible have considered themselves amateur ghost hunters.
When state police showed up on the property, which is marked with no trespassing signs, the teens took off running. They eventually ran off a cliff and were injured.
One of the teens had a cell phone and called police. They were eventually found by Meriden police. The three were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are serious but are not believed to be life threatening, police said.
No names have been released.
State police said all the teens were issued infractions for simple trespass. Meriden police were not expected to file criminal charges.
