A couple of carloads of thrill-seekers went exploring along San Antonio's historic ghost tracks early Friday morning. What they found was far more ghastly.
San Antonio police say the group stumbled upon a roadside blaze. The San Antonio Fire Department was called out to Shane Road just before 1:30 a.m. When the fire was doused, they all discovered the body of a dead person who had been set on fire.
Investigators started combing the scene shortly after that looking for clues and leads. There were few, police said.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office was able to determine the body is that of a badly burned man, detectives said. The man appeared to have been wrapped in some kind of tarp and set on fire, police said.
The authorities also noticed a trail of blood at the scene, which could mean the victim was killed somewhere else and dumped on the remote road known for its ghostly urban legend.
Homicide detectives were expected to comb the scene for more clues Friday. An autopsy was also scheduled to determine the identity of the victim.
