A Mayfield Heights couple will appear tonight on “The Marriage Ref” at 10 p.m. on NBC.
Theresa Argie said she and her husband John were contacted by the show’s casting when they saw her profile online and inquired about how her ghosthunting affected her marriage. She investigated the Lake County History Center last year as a member of Paranormal Researchers of Ohio.
“She asked if we would be interested in being a part of Jerry Seinfeld’s new project, which was about the funny or unusual things that married couples fight about,” Argie said. “Jerry found that couples fight ‘funny’, sometimes for years, about all sorts of things. They wanted to stress that this was a ‘pro-marriage’ show."
She said the show wanted to feature happy couples who have an issue they need resolved.
“I knew this would be a great opportunity for me to get the word out about my paranormal investigating,” Argie said. “Maybe reaching some folks who have need help (in the paranormal sense). Just bringing this once taboo topic out into the mainstream.”
She said becoming involved in the show was something they enjoyed and everyone they deal with was very kind and supportive. They made sure the couple knew what they were getting themselves into.
“It’s been quite a ride, but I honestly believe that the whole experience has brought us closer together as a couple, I would do it again in a heartbeat,” Argie said.
The couple plan to watch the show at a viewing party at Damon’s Restaurant in Willoughby.
