Paranormal Activity has bitterly divided audiences. Will opinions be as split over Paranormal Entity, The Asylum's slapped together at the eleventh hour mockbuster hitting DVD shelves next Tuesday? Will Paranormal Entity (review here) fare better than The Asylum's last stab at a cinema-verite mockbuster, its Cloverfield knock-off Monster?
The Asylum is going full speed ahead with the found footage premise, going so far as to post the following on its official website:
"There’s been some comment on the internet about our release called PARANORMAL ENTITY and why it hasn’t been posted on our website until now.
This has been a sensitive issue for all of us:
A few weeks ago we were approached by surviving members of the Finley family, who asked us to release never-before-seen home video footage shot by Thomas Finley, who was accused of murdering his sister, Samantha, in 2008, and who later took his own life in prison.
The family has always maintained that Thom was innocent of the crime and that Samantha’s tragic death was not caused by anything human.
Watch PARANORMAL ENTITY on December 22, 2009, and decide the truth for yourself."
Not to be outdone, the following production credits are listed:
Produced by: N/A
Directed by: N/A
Written by: N/A
Cinematography by: N/A
Starring: N/A
I can think of quite a few other Asylum productions I have seen where the people involved in making it should have tried remaining anonymous.
There is no trailer for Paranormal Entity despite the fact that it's coming out next week. Instead we get a few stills that give us an indication of what to expect.
