A Stark County judge Thursday ordered psychological evaluations for a Massillon woman accused of burning down her home.
Kristine M. Hambuechen, 41, who had lived at 19 Penberthy Pl. NE, is charged with aggravated arson and arson.
This week her defense attorney, Kenneth Frame, filed a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity on Hambuechen’s behalf, prompting Common Pleas Judge John G. Haas to order evaluations of Hambuechen’s sanity and competency to stand trial.
Hambuechen set fire Sept. 14 to the house she rented on Penberthy Place NE, causing approximately $40,000 worth of damage and endangering firefighters and neighbors, according to court papers.
Hambuechen told police she started the fire “because she was sick of living there, and it was haunted,” according to jail records.
