But what they found, according to Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman, was four teens who said they were hunting ghosts.
"According to these teens they were there because they had heard that the school was home to ghosts and decided to embark on a Stand By Me adventure that author Stephen King would have been proud of," Henderson said. "Unfortunately, the only ghouls roaming the halls were them until apparitions of a uniformed police officer with his canine appeared."
The officers arrived about 1 a.m. Sunday and spooked the teens from the building with the police dog, Henderson said.
The boys didn’t crawl from the building carrying school property or anything -- they had backpacks filled with blankets and pillows for what they apparently thought would be a more extended stay.
The teens were taken to a juvenile detention center on suspicion of criminal trespassing.
