The Lawrence county sheriff says nine people have been arrested for a halloween vandalism of an historic cemetery outside Verona.

Sheriff Brad DeLay tells KSPR tips led them to seven juveniles and two adults.

The group is accused of doing $6,000 in damage to the Lee Cemetery northwest of Verona.

According to some people in the area, the old cemetery is rumored to be haunted.

Verona Mayor Roy Snyder says many of the old headstones were broken in two and left in a pile.

The sheriff says all the suspects are from the Aurora area.
