Vandals damage ‘haunted’ Glenbeulah Cemetery
Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers •GLENBUELAH-Vandals pushed over seven large headstones this week at the Glenbeulah Cemetery, a reportedly haunted graveyard that is frequented by paranormal enthusiasts and area youths, officials said Friday.
The cemetery, on the south side of the village, contains gravestones that date to the early 1800s.
Web sites such as theshadowlsands.net claim a man hung himself there and can be seen walking around after midnight. The site says a pair of shoes also appears atop a glowing grave.
“Usually it seems to pick up in terms of activity, not necessarily vandalism, around Halloween,” said Detective David Obremski.
He said the seven headstones were pushed over and damaged or destroyed late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The vandalism was reported by an area resident Thursday morning.
Authorities have not made any arrests, but Obremski said that desecrating a memorial to the dead is a felony punishable by up to 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine.
