VACHERIE – They’ve haunted the halls of Oak Alley Plantation as long as anyone can remember, the ghosts of those who once resided in this glorious mansion along the bank of the Mississippi River.
That’s according to local lore, caretakers and tour guides, who say the hauntings at this nearly two century old plantation are as real as the oaks that line its entrance.
“Ghost Hunters,” which airs on the Sci-Fi channel weekly, aims to uncover the truth of Oak Alley’s connection to the spiritual world this Wednesday.
The show follows a group of investigators headed by two former plumbers from Rhode Island, known as the Atlantic Paranormal Society – TAPS for short – who attempt to explain the unexplainable.
For the last four years, these ghost hunters have traveled throughout the country armed with an arsenal of equipment to haunted penitentiaries, lighthouses, hotels and more.
They descended upon Vacherie’s Oak Alley Plantation about a month ago for a three to four night stay and did most of their investigating at night, said Debra Mayhew, Oak Alley’s caretaker.
But TAPS’ members were tight-lipped on what they found, keeping it a secret even to the workers at Oak Alley.
It won’t be unveiled until the show airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday on Sci-Fi
