Indiana mansion offers ghost tours and sleepovers
Up to 13 visitors at a time can pay $100 each to spend the night at the mansion, a state historic site. The overnight experience - offered twice a year around Halloween - includes a candlelit dinner, tarot card readings and a scavenger hunt.
Visitors also have time to explore the 1867 home and can move beyond roped-off areas typically off limits during public tours.
Flickering lights, an odour of tobacco in an area where no one was smoking and other mysterious doings add to the fun.
"It's just a wonderful house to come visit and spend the night in," Ed Robinson of New Albany told The Courier-Journal of Louisville. "I couldn't resist it."
The Victorian mansion in the city just north of Louisville, Ky., also offers ghost tours and scary storytelling.
The Culbertson Mansion, with 25 rooms and more than 20,000 square feet, was built by millionaire businessman William S. Culbertson, once considered to be the wealthiest man in Indiana.
The mansion also hosts Christmas activities and Victorian teas as well as historical tours throughout the year.
