The White Horse pub in Overton
A VILLAGE pub is occupied by more than just the regulars according to a Wrexham-based paranormal group.
Following a recent investigation at The White Horse in Overton, near Wrexham, paranormal investigators, Spirit Quest UK, have concluded that the pub certainly lives up to its reputation as a very haunted location.
The group was contacted by landlady Sam Nikolic who had been experiencing a number of unusual occurrences from strange footsteps to a room filling with smoke which seems to have no source.
Pumps and appliances had also been 'turning themselves off' and objects would frequently move or vanish.
Sam hoped that the investigators could get to the bottom of the strange happenings and has been pleased with the results.
She said: "It went very well. It wasn't scary, which I thought it might be, it was just very interesting.
"Some of the people who came along were real non-believers but they left convinced.
"The place was very active before they came but it has been really calm since. It's very strange – it has never felt so calm."
According to Howard Hughes, director of Spirit Quest UK, the investigation was a big success.
He explained: "During the investigation a barrel was seen moving by itself by a couple of people in the cellar and the name 'Tom' was picked up by one of the two mediums. The smoking room revealed its secrets.
"The mediums picked up the name 'William' as the invisible occupant's name although he said through spirit communication using a glass that he was happy with the name John, a name given to him by the landlady who thinks of him as one of the family."
Sam added: "There was a lot of strange knocking and the glass was going mad on the table."
Howard continued: "A medium who came in as a guest also sensed a death by fire which might tie in with the historical evidence that shows that a fire gutted the building in 1904."
The group concluded that the conference room seemed to be the paranormal heart of The White Horse.
Howard said that the room, rumoured to be haunted by a mysterious white lady, 'came alive' with activity.
"The spirits of four holy men were sensed and that ties in very nicely with rumours that a tunnel once led from the cellar to the nearby church," he said.
"Mediums picked up on the identities of a little girl named Emily and her dog who loved to sit beside an old fire place.
"The mysterious woman in white was revealed to be a servant called Florence."
The investigation was so successful that the group are planning to return to The White Horse next month, on Wednesday, September 3.
