Letchworth Library |
PARANORMAL investigators have been called in to find out if a library in Comet country is haunted, following a series of unexplained phenomena.
Senior librarian Gill Clements has asked investigators from the North Hertfordshire-based Anglia Paranormal Investigation Society (APIS) to look into strange happenings at Letchworth Library, on Broadway.
Books have been found, sometimes standing upright on the floor, well away from the shelves, by staff arriving to unlock the building in the morning.
Damien O'Dell, senior investigator at APIS, said: "A presence has been felt by a number of people who work at the library and they have nicknamed the ghost George."
He added: "On one memorable occasion, two staff members simultaneously witnessed the apparition of a young man who simply disappeared, leaving no footprints on the newly-varnished floor that he had seemingly just walked across."
At closing time one day, a librarian said she watched a book fly off a shelf and land at her feet.
APIS, whose members have worked with the Ministry of Defence, local governments, and at museums, will conduct an all-night vigil at the library later this year.
The vigil will be led by Mr O'Dell and the team's findings will be presented when APIS returns to the library on October 11.
