Fright night planned at Samlesbury Hall
5:50pm Tuesday 1st July 2008
By Citizen reporter »
Time is running out for ghosthunters to spend the night in haunted Samlesbury Hall, near Preston, with celebrity medium, Ian Lawman.
The event, in aid of The Anthony Nolan Trust, will take place on Friday, September 27, from 9pm to 4am and promises to be a real treat for anyone interested in the paranormal.
There will be a guided tour of the hall detailing real-life experiences and historical information followed by a ghost-hunting workshop with an experienced team of paranormal investigators.
Medium Ian, known as the Bad Boy of the Psychic world, will spend the there the whole evening and commentate on any spirit energies that are encountered.
Ian has starred on Most Haunted, Famous and Frightended and has recently hit our screens again with his brand new show on Living TV's Living with the Dead.
The oldest part of the building, the Great Hall, dates back to the 1320s and for many years it was a family home.
The hall is reputedly haunted by a 'White Lady', thought to be the ghost of Lady Dorothy Southworth who lived at the Hall during the seventeenth century.
Dorothy fell in love with a neighbour but, due to family conflict, the young lovers could only meet in secret.
On the night of their elopement, the young man went to collect Dorothy but her brother crept up on him and killed him and two of his accomplices.
Both families found out about the affair and Dorothy was sent to a convent abroad where she went insane and eventually died.
Some years ago three human skeletons were found near the walls of the hall.
Ruth Carter, Regional Fundraising Manager for The Anthony Nolan Trust, said: “Taking part in local events is a fantastic way to support the Charity.
"Your challenge is to spend the night in the chilling atmosphere of this 14th Century Hall.
"It is a fantastic location with classic ghost stories and recent activity, it promises to be a night to remember.
"There are only a few remaining places left, so book now to secure your ghost-hunting spot.”
Participants will be asked to raise sponsorship of at least £125 for the charity which battles leukaemia research.
Right now, the charity is urging more young men to join its bone marrow register.
Only 11 per cent of its register currently consists of young men aged between 18 and 35.
However, 75 per cent of those who go on to donate and save lives are men.
The Anthony Nolan Trust is an independent charity and relies on financial support from individuals and companies to fund its work.
It costs the charity £125 to tissue-type each new donor to its register.
