© c) 2008 Sue Schneider JJ Abrams poses at the premiere of IRON MAN SEE THE 'FRINGE' TV SERIES PREVIEW J. J. Abrams comes back to TV with a new female-lead centric show that looks decidedly familiar By PETER BROWN, Associate Editor
LOCATION: On a plane you don’t want to be on
THE SKINNY: Does everything writer/director/producer J. J. Abrams touch turn to gold? He hasn’t had many flops that’s for sure and his hits seem to polarize the water cooler regardless of what they might be – from ALIAS to LOST to MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III.
Now he’s coming back to TV with FRINGE, a new show which will be on Fox, starring Anna Torv as FBI agent Olivia Dunham.

Preview thoughts: Is J. J. Abrams tackling THE X-FILES? It sure seems like he is doing the whole paranormal thing with updated technology and science. At least that’s from the preview, it doesn’t look like any aliens are involved but it sure screams GOVERNMENT COVER-UP. But it definitely seems that FRINGE is trying for a hybrid of ALIAS (strong female lead that doesn’t take sh** from anyone), HOUSE (strange medical stuff happening and killing lots of peeps in ugly ways) and THE X-FILES (with references to paranormal and a group experimenting with people and a possible government with more than it’s letting on). I know two things: One, the lead chick in FRINGE is hot. Two, I’m interested.
