A historic hospital that some say is haunted may soon be turned into a high-end hotel. On Monday night, Albuquerque city councilors will consider a Santa Fe developer’s proposal to convert Memorial Hospital near Interstate-25 and Central into a hotel. The building is more than 80-years-old, and has served as a railroad hospital and a psychiatric ward over the years. But some people say they wouldn’t sleep easy knowing the building’s history and others speak from experience. "The place was completely empty and I was pushing a machine down the hall and right next to me I hear a voice say 'look who's here' and I look around and there's no one down the hall, there's no one there," said Jordan Trimble. The developer says if the council approves the plans, his hotel would be unique enough to not need any type of gimmick. Construction would start in the Fall of 2009 if the plans are approved. |
